Overview
Tl;Dr: Starting 10 January, 2025 (NZT), all employees with work Google accounts (@magicmemories.com) must update their passwords to be at least 12 characters long and not reuse any of their last four passwords. This is to comply with PCI DSS v4.0 standards (the latest set of rules for securing customer information). This change enhances our security and helps safeguard sensitive data. If you encounter issues doing so, submit a support ticket at u.mmem.co/techsupport.
Who
This change applies to all employees who have Magic Memories Google accounts (@magicmemories.com) with passwords less than 12 characters long.
What
To comply with the latest Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) v4.0 mandates, we are implementing stricter password requirements for Google accounts used within the company.
Why
PCI DSS is a set of industry-wide standards designed to ensure the safe handling of customer data. By strengthening our password security, we not only protect sensitive information but also underscores our proficiency in data security. This demonstrates our commitment to data security not only to current partners, but also makes us a more appealing partner to potential clients.
Doing so is not about simply complying with company/bureaucratic policy. You're actively helping to safeguard our company's reputation and the sensitive information we handle; Not just for customers, but our current partners, future partners, and our global perception too.
When
This update will take effect on 10 January 2025 New Zealand time.
How
You are encouraged to update your password before the deadline. You can do so by visiting myaccount.google.com and clicking on Security, then password.
If you do not update your password prior to the deadline, you will be prompted (read: forced) to update your password to meet the new requirements when you next sign in to your Google account after 10 January 2025.
These new requirements include:
Minimum password length: 12 characters (increased from the current minimum of 8 characters)
Password reuse: You must not submit a new Google password that is the same as any of the last four Google passwords used.
What if I have trouble resetting my password?
If you encounter any difficulties updating your password, please submit a ticket at u.mmem.co/techsupport .
