⚠️Starting June 24, 2024 NZST, 2-Step Verification (2SV) will become mandatory for Corporate Google Workspace accounts. If you do not receive a notice to enable 2SV, then you are currently excluded from enabling 2SV at this time.
There is a two-week grace period to set up 2SV before it becomes compulsory. Follow these steps as soon as possible to enable 2SV and avoid being locked out of your account after the 2SV deadline.
2-Step Verification (2SV), is an additional layer of security for your Google Workspace account. This process requires not only your password but also a second form of verification to ensure that you are the employee accessing your account. This second step involves a code generated by an authentication app.
By enabling 2-Step Verification, you significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your account, even if your password is compromised. This enhanced security measure protects you and helps maintain the integrity of Magic Memories' data.
Enabling 2-Step Verification
Sign into Your Google Workspace Account
Use your Google Workspace account to log into your account.
Look for the Security Prompt/Account Settings
Upon signing in, you should see a message: "Don't get locked out."
The message will inform you about the upcoming enforcement of 2-Step Verification from June 24, 2024. It advises you to enroll in 2SV to avoid being locked out of your account.
If you do not see the security prompt, go directly to your account settings by visiting myaccount.google.com.
Navigate to Security > 2-Step Verification.
Set Up Your Authenticator
Click on Authenticator, then select Set up authenticator.
A QR code will appear on your screen.
Scan the QR Code/Enter Key
(Preferred) In the LastPass extension, search for your Google Workspace credentials, and click the 3 dots, followed by edit, and Enter your Secret Key. Paste the code into the field and save. Further LastPass instructions will be provided soon. In the meantime, here is an external article on how to add authentication codes to our password manager.
(Alternative) Download Google Authenticator for Android or iOS, and sign into your PERSONAL Google account. It is necessary to use your personal account, because if you are locked out of your work account, you could also be locked out of your Authentication codes too. All other codes should be stored on your Magic Memories work account.
Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen. Alternatively, if you cannot scan the QR code, click on "Can't scan it?" to enter the code manually.

Scan the QR code
Because SMS is unreliable, requires a network connection and could have cost implications, we do not recommend this option when configuring 2SV with Google.
Note: Please wind down the use of Twilio’s Authy application and switch to either 1Password or Google Authenticator for 2SV.
Verify Your Setup
After scanning or entering the code, you will be prompted to enter the code generated by your authenticator app into the Google page.
Enter the code to ensure that your account is set up correctly.
Enable 2-Step Verification
Click ‘Turn on Two-Step Verification’
🔍 What happens after 2-Step Verification is turned on?
On new devices, or after Google detects a suspicious login, you will still enter your password like normal, but you will also be asked to enter a security code generated by your authentication app.
